Odilon Redon

Odilon Redon

Contemporary Impressionist (he participated in 1886 in the last group exhibition), Odilon Redon (Bordeaux 1840 - Paris 1916) remains as the great artist of mystery and the subconscious in an era that was mostly in love with real objectivity. One of the main actors of the art at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries it has played a key role in the genesis of symbolism, including his charcoals and lithographs (the famous black) before being admired for his pastels and paintings by young artists of color, Nabis and Fauves. He will then be considered a precursor of surrealism.
